Media Release: Concerns Mount Over Reports of ISIS Bride Repatriation
SYDNEY, 6 September 2025 — I am deeply alarmed by reports that the Australian Government, with the involvement of NSW Police, is preparing to once again facilitate the return of ISIS brides to Australia. NSW Police have confirmed they are preparing for these returns. In response, I will be writing to Federal Members of Parliament to express our community’s grave concerns and deep disappointment over these reports.
National security must remain paramount. Equally important is recognising the pain and trauma endured by Assyrian Australians, many of whom are survivors or descendants of survivors of ISIS atrocities. It is unconscionable that individuals who willingly joined ISIS, committing acts of treason and violence, are now being considered for return, further threatening the safety of our communities.
We urge the Australian Government to reconsider this approach and prioritise the voices and safety of ISIS victims. We will continue to strongly advocate for our community and demand accountability and transparency in the Government’s decisions.
For the victims. For Assyrian Australians.
